I enjoyed reading about the different relationships in this book and the difficulties faced by those from different hierarchies in society at the time that this book was set. I thought that the re-telling would have been about the author re-telling the story in the present day – instead the author has written it as Jane Austen would have, but in more accessible language. I have heard of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen but I have never attempted to read it, and knew little of its story line! Laura Wood, the author of this re-telling of what my mum says is a ‘classic’ story has retold it in an understandable way for present day readers.įrom what I understand of classics, the language can be quite old and difficult to understand. If I’m honest, the reason I said yes to reading and writing a review for this book is that I was drawn to the fact that it is in a dyslexia friendly format – being dyslexic myself.
